Project M100 Improved Cookstoves for a Sustainable Future in Madagascar Our innovative cooking solutions are specifically adapted to the local context. ALL PROJECTS 01 Context Madagascar is one of the countries with the highest deforestation rates in the world. A major reason for this is the widespread use of firewood and charcoal for cooking. Millions of households still cook over open fires or on inefficient stoves. This practice puts a strain on the forests, causes harmful smoke pollution in homes, and results in high fuel costs for families. The M100 – Energy-saving Stove project aims to make energy-efficient cooking solutions accessible nationwide, thereby improving the environment, health and living conditions of the population. 02 Executive Summary The M100 project contributes to the implementation of Madagascar’s national energy and climate strategy. In the ‘Pacte énergétique national’ (January 2025), the government has set itself the target of providing around 80% of the population with electricity and at least 50% of households with clean cooking technologies by 2030. Through the annual production and distribution of over 100,000 energy-efficient cooking solutions, ADES is making a concrete contribution to achieving this goal. Particular emphasis is placed on previously underserved regions and remote areas where access to modern energy solutions is particularly limited. The project activities thus support both Madagascar’s national energy policy and international sustainability goals, in particular SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and SDG 13 (Climate Action). 03 Outcomes The M100 project improves access to clean and resource-efficient cooking throughout Madagascar. Households significantly reduce their fuel consumption, save time and money, and are exposed to less harmful smoke. Low-income families in particular benefit from lower expenditure on charcoal and firewood. The financial savings and time gained create scope for nutrition, education, and small-scale economic activities. At the same time, ADES strengthens local markets and income opportunities through production, distribution, and a nationwide network of resellers. Women in particular benefit from new economic prospects along the value chain. Through awareness-raising, market development, and long-term partnerships, the project helps to permanently embed clean cooking solutions in society and the economy. Timeline The project is scheduled to run from January 2026 to December 2029 and forms part of a long-term commitment extending to 2030. • Project M570 | ADES

Project M570 Village+ Climate-Resilient Villages for Madagascar ALL PROJECTS 01 Context Madagascar is heavily affected by deforestation, biodiversity loss and the impacts of climate change. Many families still cook with firewood or charcoal, while schools and communities often have only limited resources for sustainable development. With Village+, ADES brings together more than 25 years of experience in an integrated village development model. The project combines clean cooking energy, reforestation, environmental education, sustainable school kitchens and local entrepreneurship into a holistic approach for climate-resilient villages 02 Executive Summary Village+ creates climate-resilient villages by bringing together five proven ADES approaches into one integrated programme: clean cooking energy, reforestation and biodiversity, environmental education, sustainable school kitchens, and local entrepreneurship. Together with local communities, solutions are developed to protect natural resources, promote education and create new income opportunities. The implementation of the first pilot villages is planned from 2028 onwards. 03 Outcomes Clean Cooking Energy Access to improved cooking solutions Reduced firewood consumption and lower CO₂ emissions Reforestation and Biodiversity Restoration of degraded land Protection of natural resources and promotion of biodiversity Strengthened local stewardship of natural resources Environmental Education Strengthened environmental and climate protection skills among children, young people and teachers Increased environmental awareness within communities and long-term adoption of sustainable practices Sustainable School Kitchens Energy-efficient cooking solutions for schools Improved school meals with reduced firewood consumption Local Entrepreneurship New income opportunities through local distribution and service networks Strengthened economic resilience of local communities Timeline The project is planned for the period from January 2026 to December 2028 and forms part of a long-term commitment extending to 2030. Key lessons incorporated into the concept include: Local governance instead of top-down approaches: Sustainable impact is achieved where communities are actively involved. Village+ therefore relies on local steering committees in each model village. Infrastructure requires support : Building kitchens or distributing cookstoves alone is not enough. Training, local role models and trained contact persons encourage effective use and behavioural change. Participation strengthens resilience : The best results were achieved when local actors were not only users, but also co-creators. Monitoring as a learning tool : Digital tools improve impact measurement and enable continuous adaptation. Strategic focus : Drawing on lessons learned between 2023 and 2025, ADES is placing greater emphasis on structurally disadvantaged rural regions. We are looking for committed partners to support the implementation of this project. Contact us to learn more about funding and partnership opportunities. ALL PROJECTS Any questions ? Project M300 Reforestation Strengthening the livelihoods of the local communities ALL PROJECTS 01 Context Madagascar is severely affected by climate change, with 80 per cent of the population living in poverty. A lack of infrastructure and low purchasing power lead to the over-exploitation of natural resources. The greatest threat to the environment and biodiversity lies in the disappearance of forests, caused by bushfires, charcoal production, and logging. Furthermore, large-scale destruction caused by grazing fires associated with livestock farming leads to significant problems. This environmental destruction threatens both the livelihoods of Madagascar’s growing population and the existence of globally unique ecosystems. 02 Executive Summary Through its reforestation project, ADES is tackling Madagascar’s key challenges – deforestation, poverty, unemployment and food insecurity. Since the project began in 2019, over 1,300,000 trees have been planted, covering more than 500 hectares of forest. The project promotes environmental sustainability, economic development, and education. It ensures improved food security, greater biodiversity, and better water retention, whilst preventing further soil erosion. The jobs created also provide a source of income for the local population. The reforestation project is carried out annually. 03 Outcomes Through the project, rural households and community groups develop a sound understanding of environmental issues and integrate this into their daily lives, where they pass it on to others. The aim is to contribute to long-term social change, in which the protection of natural resources, a mindful approach to the environment, and an understanding of ecological interdependencies become an integral part of people’s thinking and actions. In doing so, reforestation areas are to be secured on a permanent basis. Timeline The project is scheduled to run from August 2026 to July 2028 and forms part of a long-term commitment running until 2030.
