A wedding gift with an impact
How a donation from Switzerland is improving daily life of street kitchens in Mahamasina
In Switzerland, it is more common to give money as a wedding gift – for the honeymoon, the first joint purchases or to support the young couple.
However, this bride and groom and their family made a conscious decision to do something different. As they lacked nothing materially, they chose a gift that would benefit others rather than themselves: improved stoves for the street kitchens at the Mahamasina market in Antananarivo.
For the operators of these small kitchens, this was more than a symbolic gesture. The new stoves mean less smoke, shorter cooking times, and better conditions for customers.
Two months after the handover, our team returned to gather feedback. The feedback was clear: daily life has become easier, opportunities have improved – and there is a great deal of gratitude.
Sometimes the true value of a gift lies not in ownership, but in the impact it has.
